Steven A. Johnston, associate in our Roseland, New Jersey office, was presented with the “Pride of Essex County Award” at the 2026 Essex County LGBTQ+ Pride Celebration on June 17 at the Essex County Martin Luther King, Jr. Justice Building in Newark. The event was hosted in conjunction with the Essex County Office of LGBTQ+ Affairs and the Essex County Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Questioning Advisory Board. Johnston was selected for his service to the community and his support of equality for members of the LGBTQ+ community.
As a member of Marshall Dennehey’s Health Care Department, Johnston defends a variety of health care facilities and practitioners in medical malpractice litigation.
Prior to joining the firm, he was a law clerk in courts in Philadelphia and Tucson, Arizona, and in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. Earlier in his career, he worked at the Department of Veterans Affairs, authoring hundreds of appellate decisions and serving as the founding president of PrideVA.
Johnston is a graduate of La Salle University and earned his J.D. from the Temple University Beasley School of Law, where he was active in moot court and public policy programs and founded a clinic supporting low-income transgender individuals.
