Shannon is an associate in the Health Care Department. She concentrates her practice in the defense of professional liability and medical malpractice claims, representing physicians, hospitals and other health care personnel.

Shannon started her legal career as an assistant district attorney in Houston, Texas, gaining extensive trial experience. She then served as an assistant U.S. attorney in the Houston Division of the Southern District of Texas, serving in both the Violent Crime and Fraud divisions. While in the Fraud Division, Shannon prosecuted bank fraud, insurance fraud and mortgage fraud before concentrating her practice in health care fraud. Working directly with Program Safeguard Contractors, Shannon gained valuable insight into Medicare and Medicaid regulations, pharmaceutical drug diversion, the False Claims Act and anti-kickback regulations. She is familiar with the issues faced by the medical profession with regard to billing, coding, claims forms, fraud and abuse, and compliance matters.

Over the course of her career, Shannon has represented a variety of health care entities and professionals including physicians, hospitals, nursing homes, psychologists, psychiatrists and chiropractors. Outside of health care litigation, Shannon has a broad background that includes defending personal injury lawsuits and liquor licensees in dram shop actions.

Shannon obtained her law degree from the University of Houston School of Law, where she was an executive justice on the Board of Advocates. She earned her undergraduate degree from Penn State University. She is admitted to practice in the state courts of Pennsylvania and Texas and the U.S. District Courts for the Western District of Pennsylvania and the Southern District of Texas. Shannon is also a barrister in the W. Edward Sell Inn of Court.

Shannon's community involvement includes serving as a board member on the Pittsburgh AIDS Task Force, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing innovative support services that improve the health and quality of life for all individuals living with HIV/AIDS.
