Tom Bond (Philadelphia, PA) has been elected to the position of Secretary of the Arizona Captive Insurance Association Board of Directors for 2007. Established in March 2001, Arizona Captive Insurance Association (AzCIA) is one of the largest domiciles for national captives and risk retention groups in the country.
Charles Craven (Philadelphia, PA) has been elected a Fellow of the American Academy of Appellate Lawyers, an organization founded in 1990 to advance the highest standards and practices of appellate advocacy and to recognize outstanding appellate lawyers. The Academy consists of over 288 appellate attorneys from around the country, only seven of whom practice in Pennsylvania.
Steve Day (King of Prussia, PA) served as a moderator and speaker at the Crittenden National Medical Insurance Conference in Boston, MA. Steve spoke on the unique challenges of defending delayed or misdiagnosis of cancer cases, and presented the topic with the Vice President of Claims for a large carrier, and a board certified hematologist/oncologist from the Boston area.
Ralph Bocchino (Philadelphia, PA) recently spoke at the 9th Annual "Personal Injury Potpourri" hosted by The Dispute Resolution Institute.
The Chair of the Grove City College Board of Trustees appointed Sam Casolari (Akron, OH) to serve as Chair of the Committee on Governance. The Committee on Governance is charged with the recruitment, reappointment, and re-evaluation of Trustees and the Board of Trustees as a whole, as well as the election and re-election of offices of the Board. The Governance Committee is responsible for all matters concerning the Governance of the Board of Trustees, the awarding of Honorary Degrees, and reporting to the Board on issues concerning conflicts of interests, committee evaluations and evaluations concerning officers of the college. As Chair of the Committee on Governance, Sam also serves as a member of the Executive Committee of the Board of Trustees.
Tim McMahon and Chris Reeser (Harrisburg, PA) were featured speakers at the 2007 Pennsylvania Association of Mutual Insurance Companies' Summit recently. Their presentation was entitled "Releases and Settlements - Tactics, Tips and Techniques."
Kimberly Boyer-Cohen (Philadelphia, PA) recently served as a panelist at ACI's conference on Retaining and Promoting Female Attorneys held in New York City, where she spoke on the topic of mentoring programs.
Bill Scott (Bethlehem, PA) was elected President of the Pennsylvania Bar Institute for a one-year term starting June 22, 2007. PBI is the continuing legal educational arm of the Pennsylvania Bar Association and runs over 1,000 CLE programs and publishes numerous books on Pennsylvania law and practice every year.
Brad Remick (Philadelphia, PA) recently took and passed the Pennsylvania State Firefighter and the National PROBOARD Firefighter I examinations. This consisted of a written exam and 12 practical exams including structural interior firefighting, search and rescue, firefighter survival, first aid/CPR, fire science, cause and origin investigation, building construction and a number of other areas. He is a firefighter with the Penn Wynne/Overbrook Hills Fire Company and Treasurer of the Penn Wynne Fireman's Club.
Andrew Davitt and Rachael Luken (Philadelphia, PA) of the Securities Practice Group did a live web cast presentation for the securities broker/dealer division of the industry trade group, Financial Services Institute ("FSI") on April 18, 2007, on the topic of "Selling Investments to and Advising Senior Citizens." Andy and Rachael also presented a live web cast to the Advisor Division of FSI on April 25, 2007, entitled "Perspectives from Outside Counsel to the Registered Representatives; Recommending Investments To and Advising Senior Citizens." Finally, Andy and Rachael have authored a report for FSI on senior citizens and investment practices.
