Steve Day (King of Prussia, PA) recently spoke at the Annual Professional Liability Underwriting Society's (PLUS) Medical Professional Symposium in Chicago. Steve spoke to about 500 claims professionals, brokers, and underwriters on ways to reduce severity of claims and lawsuits, and the effect that tort reform has had on those efforts.

James Pocius (Scranton, PA) was extensively quoted in an article entitled, "Show Me The Postmortem Money: Missouri Supreme Court Overturns Workers' Comp Axiom" in the March 2007 edition of Risk & Insurance Magazine.

Martin Sitler (Akron, OH) gave a presentation to approximately 100 attendees at the Ohio Chapter of the American Society of Home Inspectors' 12th Annual Educational Conference in Columbus, Ohio. The presentation covered such topics as errors & omissions insurance for home inspectors; the anatomy of an Ohio civil lawsuit involving home inspectors; issues associated with complex/multi-party construction litigation; and the enforcement of liquidated damages and arbitration provisions in home inspection agreements.

Charles Craven (Philadelphia, PA) has been elected a Fellow of the American Academy of Appellate Lawyers, an organization founded in 1990 to advance the highest standards and practices of appellate advocacy and to recognize outstanding appellate lawyers. The Academy consists of over 288 appellate attorneys from around the country, only seven of whom practice in Pennsylvania. Membership in the Academy is by invitation and is open to individuals who possess a reputation of recognized distinction as an appellate lawyer. Members must have been in appellate practice for 15 years and only those persons with a recognized reputation for the highest integrity and excellence in appellate work are invited to join.

Diane Magram (Cherry Hill, NJ) was recently elected to the Board of Trustees of the Trial Attorneys of New Jersey.

Sharon O'Donnell (Harrisburg, PA) gave a presentation to 217 attendees at a teachers' in-service at the Juniata County School District covering topics such as the new federal rule regarding records retention and potential spoliation claims; a new state statute covering a student's right to privacy and potential security breaches; and miscellaneous points of interest under the IDEA relating to confidential information contained in individualized education plans for special needs and gifted students.

Steve Day (King of Prussia, PA) recently presented a seminar to the Philadelphia Area Society of Healthcare Risk Managers (PASHRM) on the issue of electronic discovery and its nexus with healthcare litigation. The session was attended by 50 area risk managers representing hospitals and long-term care facilities.

Frank Brennan (Cherry Hill, NJ) presented a continuing education seminar for the Insurance Society of Philadelphia entitled Insurance Fraud on February 2, 2007. This course covered the basics in identifying, reporting and defending various forms of fraud. Recent trends in application and rate evasion fraud, auto and property fraud, and medical provider fraud were also discussed.

Steve Day and Donna Modestine (King of Prussia, PA) presented five separate sessions of a seminar on the Legal Implications of Electronic Medical Records and Clinical Decision Support Systems to 125 doctors, nurses, technicians and administrators at Women and Babies Hospital in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Women and Babies is part of the Lancaster General Hospital System. The sessions focused not only on the advantages of these support systems, but also how crafty plaintiff's lawyers will attempt to "turn" these systems against the provider and expand the types of medical malpractice claims.

Stephen Ryan (King of Prussia, PA) spoke at an Insurance Society of Philadelphia continuing education course entitled Medical Malpractice Professional Liability. This workshop examined insurance policy provisions to understand insurance agreements, conditions and exclusions. Participants also gained knowledge of common medical malpractice risk factors.
