Defense Digest On The Pulse...Other Notable Achievements At the Annual Shareholders' Meeting held on December 6, 2006, Thomas C. DeLorenzo (Philadelphia, PA) was elected as a member of the firm's nine-member Board of Directors. Kathleen S. McGrath (King of Prussia, PA) and Scott G. Dunlop (Pittsburgh, PA) were also re-elected to the Board of Directors. We are pleased to announce that the following attorneys were elected as shareholders of the firm at our Annual Shareholder Meeting in December 2006: Tracy A. Burleigh; Patrick M. Carey; John F. Deasy; Edward M. Galang; Jessica L. Julian; Donna Modestine; Andrew M. Schwartz; and Robert E. Smith. Beginning January 1, 2007, Wendy Bracaglia will assume the position of managing attorney of our King of Prussia, Pennsylvania, office and John Gonzales will be the assistant manager of that office. Cynthia Kohn will assume the position of assistant manager of the Orlando, Florida, office. The CPCU Society will host its National Annual Conference in Philadelphia in 2008. Eric Fitzgerald (Scranton, PA) has been asked by the Philadelphia CPCU Chapter to chair its Planning Committee for the event and to also act as liaison to the Society's 2008 Conference Task Force. This Fall, Eric was recognized by the Society for completing his three year term as a National Governor for the Society, the third year of which he sat on the Executive Committee. Eric is also a member of the National Claims Section Leadership Committee, the AICPCU Advisory Committee and the CPCU Journal Advisory Committee. Howard Dwoskin (Philadelphia, PA) recently spoke at the Mealey's LexisNexis teleconference An Insider's Look at Retail & Hospitality Liability where participants received hands-on advice for effectively managing exposure to personal injury, theft & security, and food & beverage liability claims. Colleen Bannon (Philadelphia, PA) recently presented a seminar regarding Electronic Discovery and the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure to members of Manufacturers Alliance/MAPI. Members of MAPI include leading global companies in manufacturing and related business services, including electronics, aerospace, automotive, information technology, medical technology, precision instruments, pharmaceuticals, chemicals, and energy. The late Francis X. Marshall, a founding member of our law firm, was inducted into the Philadelphia Bar Association's Legends of the Bar on December 5, 2006. Recently, Patricia Monahan and Scott Dunlop (Pittsburgh, PA) spoke about police department employment practices liability and Paul Krepps and Scott Dunlop (Pittsburgh, PA) spoke on topics related to police civil rights liability at the Pennsylvania State Association of Township Supervisors who sponsored a series of seminars on issues pertaining to police liabilities in Beaver County and Westmoreland County. Kate McGrath, Steve Ryan and Dan Sherry (King of Prussia, PA) were presenters at ASHRM's 2006 Annual Conference - on a mock jury presentation to highlight issues of risk management and compliance with government regulations. Butler Buchanan III (Philadelphia, PA) and Cerys St. John (King of Prussia, PA) have co-authored an article entitled "The Importance Of Internet And Email Monitoring - Depending On The Workplace Its Not Just An Option - It's A Necessity," which was published in the December 2006 edition of The Practical Lawyer, a magazine published by the American Law Institute - American Bar Association. The article addresses the growing need for email and internet monitoring policies in the workplace, and provides useful information to attorneys advising their clients on this topic. At the recent annual conference of the Arizona Captive Insurance Association, Thomas Bond (Philadelphia, PA) was elected to serve as a member of the Board of Directors. The Arizona Captive Insurance Association is the domicile to numerous state, national and international risk retention groups and captives. Dario Badalamenti and Greg Bartley (Roseland, NJ) recently provided a seminar lecture to the North Jersey Claims Association at their fall dinner. The event was attended by 50 claims and medical providers. Wilhelm Dingler (Philadelphia. PA) recently had an article published in the Fall 2006 (Volume 77, No. 3, p. 14) publication of the Pennsylvania CPA Journal (the magazine published quarterly by the Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants for its members) entitled "Never Slack On Security," concerning identity theft risk management and prevention.
