Defense Digest On the Pulse ... Other Notable Achievements Phil Toran (Philadelphia), Director of the Professional Liability Department, has contributed a chapter appearing in the recently published book Inside The Minds: Professional Liability Law: Leading Lawyers on Strategies for Minimizing Risk and Increasing Success in Professional Liability Suits. Phil's chapter is entitled "Adding Value, Minimizing Risk." This is a publication of Aspatore Books. Phil is Chairman of the firm's Executive Committee. He has also had numerous articles published in The Legal Intelligencer and PLUS Journal. Dan Ryan (Philadelphia) was recently appointed to be a hearing committee member for The Disciplinary Board of the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania. Chuck Craven (Philadelphia) has been appointed as a Vice-Chair of the Appellate Advocacy Committee of the American Bar Association's Tort Trial and Insurance Practice Section. Chuck serves as the Editor of the Committee's newsletter and as the newsletter's Third Circuit Reporter. His term as Vice-Chair is for the ABA's 2005-2006 fiscal year, which begins in August. Appointments to leadership positions within TIPS are clear recognition of professional abilities and reputations among its 25,000 members. Joseph Daly (Philadelphia) recently participated in the annual meeting of the Trial Attorney's of America, a select national organization of attorneys concentrating their practice in the defense of product liability actions and representing primarily self-insured manufacturers. Mr. Daly was a presenter in the Continuing Legal Education Program at the meeting and was involved in a panel on electronic discovery and the anticipated amendments to the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure. Mr. Daly was also the recipient of the 2005 Annual Award of the Trial Attorneys of America at the annual meeting held in Chicago from June 15, 2005 to June 17, 2005.
