Katherine leads the Health Law practice within the Health Care department of Marshall, Dennehey, Warner, Coleman & Goggin.
Katherine provides regulatory and transactional guidance to hospitals, physicians and other health care providers in a variety of areas: federal and state health care reform, managed care, reimbursement, fraud and abuse, health information privacy and security, medical staff issues, regulatory compliance and government payment programs, including Medicare Advantage, Part D and state Medicaid programs.
Prior to joining the firm, Katherine spent six years leading the managed care and health information practice within the national health care group of Reed Smith, LLP. Additionally, Katherine served as General Counsel of Keystone Health Plan East and as Deputy General Counsel at Independence Blue Cross where she was head of the health insurer's managed care law group. Katherine also practiced as an associate with Alice G. Gosfeld & Associates where she represented physicians and other health care providers. Katherine began her legal career as an attorney on the in-house legal staff within Hahnemann University Hospital.
Katherine maintains close touch with the operational and financial challenges of health care delivery in her volunteer work as a member of the Executive Committee of the Board of Directors of Wesley Enhanced Living, which operates continuing care retirement communities throughout Pennsylvania, and also as a member of the Board of Directors of Home Care Associates, a Philadelphia employee-owned home care agency.
Katherine is a frequent speaker on health law issues for trade and professional associations including the American Health Lawyers Association and the Pennsylvania Bar Institute.
