Firm NewsMarshall, Dennehey, Warner, Coleman & Goggin Opens New York Office: New York, NY - The regional defense litigation law firm Marshall, Dennehey, Warner, Coleman & Goggin is pleased to announce the opening of a New York City office. Like the firm's 17 other offices located in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, Ohio and Florida, the New York City office will focus exclusively on defense litigation and will broaden the firm's ability to fully serve its clients' regional needs.In discussing this development, Thomas A. Brophy, President and CEO of the firm, recently stated, "We already do work for a significant number of New York clients, so this move is quite logical, given the locations of our current offices and the corresponding locations of our clients. It is being made specifically in response to client requests. We are very excited about this new opportunity for us." Jeffrey J. Imeri has joined the firm as a shareholder and the managing attorney for the New York City office. Steven M. Christman and Christian D. Lofaro have also joined the firm as associates. Imeri recently stated, "Having devoted my entire legal career to the defense of insurance companies and their insureds, I am elated to join a firm that, throughout its history, has also based its practice exclusively on defense litigation. I have no doubt that the firm's size, depth of legal talent and deep-rooted commitment to its clients will greatly enhance my practice and ability to provide our clients with the most efficient and cost-effective representation possible." Modestine (King of Prussia, PA) spoke at the Professional Liability Underwriters Society (PLUS) Medical Seminar in Chicago. She participated along with a panel on the topic of Healthcare Facilities: The Amazing Race?? (4/08) Armand J. Della Porta, Jr. (Wilmington, DE) spoke at a seminar entitled The Truth, The Whole Truth and Nothing But The Truth About The Delaware Asbestos Litigation, sponsored by Harris Martin Publishing in Wilmington, Delaware. Armand spoke regarding Developing Law in Delaware Asbestos Litigation. (2/08)James E. Pocius (Scranton, PA) spoke at the PESI National Conference on Workers' Compensation Top Medical and Legal Issues 2008 Update in Las Vegas, Nevada. Jim spoke regarding Update on Medicare Set-Asides: Medicare Conditional Payments, Practice Consideration When Dealing With Medicare Set-Asides; and Coming & Going Rule, When Is The Worker Covered Under Workers' Compensation Statutes? Mr. Pocius was also the Moderator for the Panel Discussion: Difficult Medical Issues in Workers' Compensation. (2/08) Keith Heinold's (Philadelphia, PA) insightful article Crashworthiness - Simple in Theory, Complex in Application was recently published by the Defense Research Institute in its In House Defense Quarterly, Winter 2008 issue. We are very proud of the fact that Keith has been published by such a distinguished publication. (2/08) Thomas P. Wagner (Philadelphia, PA) has been appointed to the Environmental Advisory Council of Upper Darby Township. This five member board has been created to study alternative methods of recycling for Pennsylvania's largest township. Mr. Wagner is an elected member of the Town Council in Upper Darby. He is one of two council members who will serve on the new Environmental Advisory Council, along with three township residents. (2/08) John Aponick's (Scranton, PA) recent win appeared in the Defense Research Institute's online newsletter, The Voice. The DRI identified John's summary judgment as a significantly important result and featured it in the section titled And The Defense Wins! We are very proud of John's accomplishment. (2/08) Diane Magram (Cherry Hill, NJ) recently had her defense verdict featured by the Defense Research Institute in their weekly newsletter, The Voice. Conkin (Philadelphia, PA) spoke at the Insurance Bad Faith Claims in Pennsylvania seminar sponsored by Lorman Education Services in Philadelphia, Pa. Mr. Conkin's topics covered the Scope of Attorney-Client Privilege in First-Party Bad Faith Cases, Experts in Bad Faith Cases, Ethical Considerations for Retained Defense Counsel in Context of a Bad Faith Case, and Bad Faith and Excess Verdicts: Is the Excess Verdict a Floor or the Ceiling? (2/08) David Shannon (Philadelphia) recently represented the Pennsylvania Bar Association Intellectual Property Law Section at the PBA's annual mid-year meeting. David currently serves as the Chairman of the Intellectual Property Law section. (2/08)Matthew P.
