John T. Cofresi is an associate in the firm's New York office. John’s practice is concentrated on the defense of casualty claims and miscellaneous professional liability matters.  John’s casualty experience includes the defense of construction related litigation, products liability, property damage, subrogation matters, environmental cost recovery actions brought under the Navigation Law, and premises liability.  John has defended construction managers, trade contractors, fire suppression professionals, self storage companies and operating engineers.  John’s professional liability practice includes the defense of employment practices liability, disability access under the Americans with Disabilities Act and corresponding state/local laws, and consumer issues.

Prior to joining Marshall Dennehey John was an associate at one of New York’s oldest law firms where he represented and defended two of New York’s largest utility companies in casualty related litigation throughout both state and federal courts.  During that time, John had the opportunity to work on several catastrophic casualty matters.  John served as a second chair in a trial involving a traumatic crush injury sustained by a rigger/lifter when a seven thousand pound water sample panel fell on the plaintiff crushing his pelvis and legs. The case settled favorably for approximately eight million dollars moments before the jury returned a verdict of twelve million dollars.

During law school, John was an intern with the Appellate Division Second Department Grievance Committee.  At the Grievance Committee John was involved in all facets of investigating and prosecuting attorney professional misconduct.   While pursuing his studies and working for the Grievance Committee, John also served as a Judicial Extern to the Honorable Edwin Torres, Justice of the Supreme Court, New York County, Criminal Term.  John is actively involved in the New York Law School Alumni Association and is part of its Alumni Mentor Project. He is an active member of the New York State Bar Association and serves on its Standing Committee of the Civil Practice Law and Rules.
